Our Story

We’re two people who fell in love with Watergate Bay on our honeymoon, way back in 1999. We sat in The Beach Hut, drinking coffee, watching the winter swell roll in, dreaming about what it would be like to live here.

From Dreams to Reality

For the next three years, we spent weekends driving to Watergate, surfboards on the roof, leaving as late as possible on Sunday to head back. In 2002, we finally made Cornwall our home, and it was the best decision we ever made. Living in Cornwall is every bit as wonderful as we imagined.

The Shop on the Beach

In 2005, we bought the shop at Watergate Bay, known by locals as The Shop on the Beach. Those first years were challenging, with a lot of hard work, no holidays, and an intimidating overdraft. But through everything, we’ve always felt lucky to call this place home.

Resilience Through the Storms

Sometimes it felt like the sea was trying to push us out. We faced our share of storms – anyone remember the big one in March 2008? High tide reached the back of the shop! But North Cornwall has its own magic, and it’s worth every wild and stormy day.

Community at the Heart

Watergate Bay is a community of surfers, dog walkers, ocean-gazers, and families who share a love for the beach. This magical place has brought together generations – some of our team started here as teenagers and now bring their own kids to the bay.
